The Gift of Courage

One of the best gifts we can give our loved ones is our own courage. This means having the courage to stand in our truth, to be honest about what we want and don’t want, what we will do and won’t do, what is and what is not acceptable to us. It means having the courage to take good care of ourselves, even if others don’t like it. It means not succumbing to our controlling behaviors that come from fear, anger, withdrawal, compliance, resistance; but instead being honest and above-board about ourselves. It means being willing to face conflict rather than give ourselves up to avoid it.

Lightness of being is infectious – our laughter and playfulness can help others take life less seriously and “lighten up.” Lightness of being is one the results of all the other gifts – of caring, courage, service and creativity.   • Fatigue that is so severe it restricts activity (serious fatigue develops with less than one-half of the exertion compared to before the illness)

Other symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome:

  • Fatigue lasting more than 24 hours after an amount of exercise that would normally be easily tolerated
  • Mild fever (101 degrees F or less)
  • Sore throat
  • Lymph node tenderness in the neck or armpit muscle weakness all over or multiple locations, not explained by any known disorder Muscle aches also known as myalgias
  • Feeling unrefreshed after sleeping an adequate amount of time
  • Headaches, different from previous headaches in quality, severity, or pattern
  • Joint pain, often moving from joint to joint (migratory arthralgias), without joint swelling or redness
  • Forgetfulness or other similar symptoms including difficulty concentrating, confusion, or irritability

Once you experience persistent, extreme fatigue, with or without other symptoms of this disorder, contact your professional health care provider. Other more serious disorders can cause similar symptoms and should be ruled out.

See the dentist as soon as you can and in the meantime you can try the following remedies to help with the aching tooth.

Cloves

Cloves can be found in the spice rack and are often used in apple dishes, but they are also one of the best-known home remedies for a toothache.

  • To relieve the pain of a mild toothache, chew two cloves on the affected tooth.
  • If chewing is too painful, you can use oil of cloves.
  • Mix 3 drops oil of cloves with a quarter teaspoon of olive oil.
  • Soak a cotton ball or gauze pad in this mixture and rub it over the painful tooth and gum.
  • Then keep it against the affected tooth by biting down on it.

 You should feel better within 10 minutes or less.

Salt

Salt can be a very effective remedy for a toothache as well as any gum infection or sore in the mouth, especially where bacteria are at the root of the problem.

  • Dissolve one teaspoon of salt in a small glass of lukewarm (body temperature) water.
  • Take a sip and swirl it around the mouth, working it through the gaps between the teeth where possible.
  • Do not swallow.
  • Just spit it out and then take another sip and repeat.
  • By the time you finish the glass your pain should be much less.
  • If it comes back later, just repeat.
  • Even if you stay pain-free, it is a good idea to do this after every meal for a few days.
  • It will help clear any bacteria that might be forming around food particles in the mouth and prevent the problem from recurring.

If you have salt crystals, then alternatively you can take one or two and press them against the painful place with your tongue until they dissolve.

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic that can be used to relieve the agony of a toothache in much the same way as oil of cloves. Alternatively, add a few drops to a small glass of water and swirl around the mouth before spitting out.

Ice

Ice can numb the pain and reduce swelling in the mouth as well as on joint sprains and strains. Either hold an ice cube against the painful tooth in the mouth or make an ice pack from ice wrapped in a cloth or a pack of frozen food and hold it against your cheek where you have pain.

If you use frozen food as an ice pack, you should throw it away when you are done. It will have partially thawed and it is not safe to refreeze and eat.

Lower The Head

Increase blood flow to the head by putting your head between your knees, as if you were feeling faint. Combined with other methods this will strengthen the body’s ability to fight the infection. See your dentist or doctor if home remedies for a toothache do not resolve your problem.

Just a suggestion

Swishing with hydrogen peroxide every day after you clean your teeth has been known to whiten teeth over time and keep the smile whiter, and at the same time works as a natural antiseptic and micro bug killer in your mouth. Do not swallow the hydrogen peroxide as most over the counter hydrogen peroxide is not food grade. So spit it out after.

Yarrow grows to about 3 feet tall in fields and along the road and has lacy leaves that look much like feathers, and pretty white flower clusters.

The wild yarrow is more potent than the garden variety. It has astringent properties that contract flesh and it was used by Achilles, who found that it beautifully knit together the sword wounds of his troops on the battlefield and was an antibacterial that helped with pain, inflammation, and swelling. It has wonderful properties that make it a medicine chest in itself. It has many uses that may seem complicated to us so it is worth studying this balancing, many-faceted herb.

It is very bitter although, when it is crushed it has a pleasant smell. The fresh plant contains Thujone which is also found in Absinthe and which makes you feel drunk and euphoric, and might even cause hallucinations if you have too much, so be careful. This Thujone dissipates when dried so it might be better to use dried cut yarrow in tinctures and teas. The thujone also dissolves when it is steeped in hot water.

Leaves and Flowers (Aerial parts). Only the flowers, buds, and leaves (aerials) are used to eat or in a tea. The leaves and flowers of Yarrow are used to make remedies. Although the leaves are bitter, they can be eaten raw or cooked; young leaves mixed in with a salad are used. Yarrow leaves are also used as a hop substitute for flavoring and as a preservative for beer.

Yarrow is used for fever, common cold, hay fever, to improve menstruation, to stop dysentery, diarrhea, to improve appetite, to assist gastrointestinal (GI) tract discomfort, and to induce sweating.

It stops bleeding externally and internally. When you get a wound, it helps balance bleeding and helps form a scab. The powdered dry herb or the fresh herb poultice stops bleeding from deep cuts and wounds almost immediately.

Yarrow’s anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties make it a perfect first aid remedy.

A yarrow tea bath or topical application with the ointment or oil can be useful for rheumatic joints and varicose veins.

It makes a wonderful facial steam that improves complexion.

Yarrow Essential Oils

The anti-inflammatory, cooling and anti-infectious properties are available in the Yarrow essential oil. The oil is massaged into the forehead or the neck for headaches. 2-3 drops of yarrow essential oil per ounce of St. John’s Wort oil is a wonderful remedy for sunburn. Horsetail is also known as Shavegrass and has other names. Horsetail is a grass or reed that grows in marshy areas, it loves wet feet (roots). It has soft needles rather than leaves and no flowers. Horsetail has also been used for treating bronchitis and tuberculosis. It assists in respiratory health because it is high in salicylic acid which can help strengthen lungs and increase resistance to disease, bronchitis, dry cough, and nasal blockage.   The tea is high in quercetin, an anti-inflammatory compound that stabilizes mast cells that become easily inflamed during allergic reactions.  Horsetail is an excellent daily tea for people with asthma, especially when mixed with mullein leaf.  It strengthens lung tissue and prevents inflammation, while mullein helps to remove congestion and increase pliability of lung air sacks.

Use more herb in the water and boil it longer to make a decoction or mash up the fresh herb and use it as a paste topically on the skin and as a poultice for wounds and pain and for rheumatism and inflammation particularly. Put 4 oz (a handful) of horsetail herb into an old sock and throw it into a hot bath to soak in for muscle and joint pain and inflammation. Use the sock of herbs to rub on the skin.  It also assists the prostate by reducing swelling and inflammation.

Please Note: It’s best not to use it for longer than 2 months at a time so your body can rest from it. Don’t eat too much raw Horsetail green stalks because they contain thiaminase, an enzyme that destroys thiamine or vitamin B1 stores in the body.

The body needs a balanced and moderate amount of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, minerals, and vitamins to function well. The foods containing these nutrients have to be properly chewed to assist in digestion and absorption (this does not apply to fiber: a type of carbohydrate that the body can neither digest nor absorb). Proper chewing reduces foods to mush and proportionally increases the effect of the digestive juices on them or the availability of the nutrients that are ready for absorption. Chewing is at the center of life.

Carbohydrates are simple or complex sugars generally obtained from fruit, honey, milk products, beets, rutabagas, potatoes, legumes (beans, lentils, or peas), nuts, seeds, whole grains, and the bread, cereal, or pasta made from these grains.
